FreshRank - The new feel of Google pages

In patent of March 18, 2008 Google defines the principles according to which a page is considered obsolete and when he considers it rather as a reference. A notion FreshRank is thus implicitly detail.

The distinction is important because in the first case, the page disappears from the top ranks results in favor of pages considered more current, and the second to the contrary, it sees its position strengthened by its age and is not affected by multiplicity of blog entries on the same subject.

The name of the patent is Information retrieval based on historical data, what we mean by: The searches much information based on data Historical .

Factors taken into account to decide, according to the patent, are as follows:

  1. Date of document creation.
Or more accurately, since Google knows that the indexing date, one in which the crawler discovers the new page.

  2. Updates.
The frequency and size of updates are important to consider that document, although former remains current.

  3. Analysis of queries.
If a page is selected more often among the results displayed for a query, it adds to his note. If it is considered outdated but nonetheless chosen by Internet users, is situation will be reviewed. If a page is included in an increasing number of different applications, it is an indication that it is timely. The reverse indicates that its content is less and less present.

  4. Criteria based on the links.
It takes into account the dates of appearance of new links and one where the links disappear. If new links appear less and less often, the page is regarded as obsolescent. If the total number of backlinks decreases gradually, the conclusion is the same.
The algorithm weights the importance of backlinks depending on the freshness of the pages that contain them.       Which depends on the same criteria (here detailed) than the page that is evaluated, so there is a FreshRank similar in principle to the Page Rank.
Other weighting factors are also applied to the links :- The confidence criterion (Trust Rank).
A significant amount and sudden backlinks indicates the desire of spam, links created by yourself or a circle to promote a document.

  5. Text anchors.
The modification of the anchors of links on a page indicates that it is updated and remains current. Conversely, if the document anchors of links does not change while the pages pointed change, it indicates that the document is not updated.

  6. Traffic.
The reduction of traffic on a web page indicates obsolescence thereof. The algorithm takes into account seasonal variations. It reflects the ads on the page:
    - The fact that advertisements are changed or not.
    - The importance of the site that these ads.
    - The rate of clicks on those ads.
(Note: The patent does not say how these data are collected, but it seems Adsense is the best medium).

  7. User behavior.
As already mentioned, is essentially the number of times     and a page is selected in the results, but also the time spent by visitors on it. If during the time visitors spend less time on the page, the note of freshness is lowered. It is the same if they spend less time on other pages on the same subject.

  8. The domain name.
To counter the spammers who create domain to host their pages, Google takes into account the legitimacy of a domain. Areas prepayments for several years are considered more "legitimate", the date of expiry is taken into account for the note. Frequent change of host (DNS), contacts, are considering a document as not legitimate. A host who manages many domains and Registrars various enhances the legitimacy of the field.

  9. History positions.
The successive positions in the ranking of results are taken into account, and the sudden change of position for a given query indicates spam. If the number of results overall for a query undergone an abrupt increase, this indicates a topical and relevant pages will have a better note for the future.
If this number increases to one document, the algorithm must distinguish between spam and a hot topic mentioned in the page. To do this, he will take into account the references to the document in the new articles, discussion groups, where the spam is not supposed to be.But all this is done except for reference materials, which have a good position for a long time.

  • Bookmarks.

The data managed by the users are taken into account. Favorites are treated as backlinks, number, their evolution is used to judge the relevance of a page.
  • Unique words, bigrams and phrases in the anchor.
The appearance of a large number of anchors identical documents, or conversely, anchors all different in many documents indicate spam. Growth jerky these unique words, bigrams and phrases in the anchor denotes a consultation and therefore spam.
  • Links unrelated.
A sudden increase in links between pages in the content without the report indicates spam. This is confirmed if, there is an additional anchor to content coherent or discordant.
  • Subject documents .
The subject of a document can be known by the following data:
    - Categorization.
    - Analysis of URLs.
    - Content Analysis.
    - Clustering.
    - Creating Summary.
    - Presence of unique keywords specific to the area.
    - And more ...
If individuals change, the pages should be reconsidered. A spike in the number of subjects differs Intent of spamming.

Conclusion

The definition of Google pages obsolete in one sentence: Stale content Refers to records That have-nots Been updated for a period "of time and, Malthus, container stale data.

Translation:- Content depreciated refers to documents that have not been updated since a certain period, and thus contain data exceeded. We see that the practical application of the definition is somewhat more complicated. Yet the basic idea is simple: A document like the Declaration of 18 June will never be exceeded, but the comments for example on an edition of the Olympics will lose interest over time. The algorithm of Google will make the difference.
